Views down to the Lake

The walk starts at Bar Los Caminos halfway between Kilometre 54 and Kilometre 55 on the A333 Iznájar /Salinas road signed to CO – 9200 Villanueva de Algaida. This is midway between Iznájar and Villanueva de Tapia opposite the minor road A328 to Loja. In front of the bar is a bus stop. Park behind the bus stop at the front of the bar.

From Bar Los Caminos you climb with splendid views, past a range of Andalucian cottages to a ridge. For amazing views of Lake Iznájar, Rute, Subbética and other Sierras. Descending through olive groves along a ridge with views in all directions to a road, which returns to Bar Los Caminos.

This moderate walk provides views from step one; starting from a typical roadside bar, passing the small village school, up past ancient Andalucian fincas (cottages). One kilometre out you can visit the village hand laundry, where the local women still wash their clothes by hand in cold running water using stone scrubbing basins. The minor road ascends to a peak, with views to your left as you ascend. At the crest you go up a stone cart track up onto the ridge, which you will follow back down. From the ridge you will enjoy views down to Lake Iznájar, Sierras de Subbética, Rute, Sierra Gorda and Sierra Gibalto. The ridge starts on a defined track and passes through olive groves as it descends back down towards another minor road that you will follow down back to the Bar Los Caminos. Here you can still buy a beer for 1 euro and get a free tapa. When you order your drink just say “Hay (pronounced ‘eye’) tapitas?”.
