Welcome to the Informal English Group
The Informal English Group was started in February 2005. Although a little pessimistic about the response, in the event over forty people turned up, and so the English Group was launched.
The group meets at the Hotel Almazara, Rio Frio on the first Tuesday of each month from 12 to 2 pm. Meals are available after the meeting. Members of the group who have a meal at the hotel may also have use of the swimming pool.
We would emphasise that the aims of the group are twofold. One is to provide a meeting place for anyone speaking English and the other to offer support and to help newcomers settle into their new life.
As the title of the group says it is INFORMAL. There is no committee, no agendas, nor are there any minutes. It really is a case of turn up, have a drink and a chat and make new friends.
Help!
As one of the functions of the group is to provide help and assistance to members, particularly newcomers to Loja and the surrounding area, there are a series of sheets on which members may ask for help and/or advice. These are put out during meetings along with cards and leaflets advertising members’ trades and services on offer.
If you have a question about settling in to Spain there is usually someone in the group who has had the same problem and has found the answer or at least knows a man or woman who has!
